David Korty's paintings exude introspective calm and prudence. The painter creates pictures of modern urban life and shows the viewer in his works city sections, people in museums looking at works of art, or libraries, airports, cars, houses, urban landscapes.

In Korty's interplay of lines and color, people and their surroundings form a stylistic unit. The starting material for Korty's painting are photographs that he takes in his hometown of Los Angeles or while traveling to other metropolises. The painterly implementation of the template filters what is photographically documented and turns it into geometrically composed fields of color and lines. Details disappear or are emphasized elsewhere, faces, bodies and perspective are smoothed out. In the interplay of graphite lines, brushstrokes and color fields, the artist distills the spatial world of experience and reveals the linear patterns and aesthetic structures on which it is based for our view.

Korty's handling of the material works in a similar way: the layers of paint are not closed, but in some places show the grain of the canvas, the outlines of graphite pencil and lines of wax crayon. In some places, the color pigments are applied with a fine spatula instead of a brush.
