David Llewellyn Snellgrove (born June 29, 1920 in Portsmouth , † March 25, 2016 in England ) was a British Tibetologist .

David Snellgrove worked on Buddhism in Tibet and wrote numerous travel reports. He was professor of Tibetan at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) until he retired in 1982. In 1969 he was elected a member of the British Academy .

With the proceeds of his work A cultural history of Tibet , published together with Hugh E. Richardson in 1968 , he financed the establishment of the Institute of Tibetan Studies in Tring .
