David LaFlamme (born Gary Posie on May 4, 1941 in New Britain , Connecticut ) is an American musician . The rock violinist became popular in the late 1960s with the West Coast rock band It's a Beautiful Day .

Life

He began playing the violin at the age of five, which he later did for the Utah Symphony Orchestra. After completing his military service, he came to California in the San Francisco area in 1962 . There he became an icon in the underground scene, performed in the jazz ensemble of John Handy and played with rock greats of the time such as Jerry García and Janis Joplin . After briefly playing Orkustra with the Electric Chamber , he co-founded Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks .

In 1967 he finally founded It's a Beautiful Day , in which his future first wife Linda also played. For a short time the band had good record sales. After these declined, however, LaFlamme left the band in 1972. For a short time he had a band called Edge City . In 1973 he met the singer Linda Baker, with whom he moved back to Salt Lake City in 1980 and whom he married in 1982. Two of his solo records appeared on Amherst Records in the late 1970s: White Bird (1977) and Inside Out (1978). He also played live as a solo violinist during this time, which brought him little success. When he formed a new, short-lived band in 1978, he called it It Was A Beautiful Day because of that .

LaFlamme also worked as a studio musician, for example he played on Tracy Chapman's debut album in 1988 . In 1996, It's a Beautiful Day was reunited with LaFlamme, but this did not even produce an album. In 2003 another solo production of the violinist appeared in the form of Beyond Dreams .
