It's a Beautiful Day was an American rock band formed in 1967 by David LaFlamme in San Francisco . Also there were LaFlamme's first wife Linda LaFlamme, Hal Wagenet, Mitchell Holman, Pattie Santos and Val Fuentes. What was special at the time was that bandleader LaFlamme used an electrically amplified violin as a supporting melody instrument and therefore largely avoided the use of a solo guitar.

Even before the release of the debut album It's a Beautiful Day (1969), Fred Webb joined the band. The LP got very good reviews when singles were released White Bird , Bombay Calling and A Hot Summer Day . The original LP cover is considered to be one of the most beautiful covers in the history of rock music, but could not be used later due to licensing reasons. The song Bombay Calling inspired Deep Purple to compose one of their most famous songs, Child In Time , because organist Jon Lord was a big fan of It's a Beautiful Day and Deep Purple was the opening act on one of their tours.
The second album Marrying Maiden from 1970 made it to the top 30 of the US album charts. Jerry García could be heard as a studio guest . After Holman and Wagenet left the band in 1972, they had to be replaced by Tom Fowler and Bill Gregory. The LP Choice Quality Stuff Anytime , released in the same year, received poor reviews. The live album It's a Beautiful Day at Carnegie Hall was also released .
On the 1973 LP Today only Santos, Fuentes, Webb, Gregory, Bud Cockrell, Greg Bloch and Donald Waldrop could be heard. Then the band broke up.
After David LaFlamme founded a new band in 1978 after a few badly sold concerts, it was named It Was a Beautiful Day .
In 1996 there was a reunion concert with David LaFlamme, Holman, Wagenet and Fuentes in Santa Cruz .
