David Linde

David Linde (born February 8, 1960 ) is an American film producer .

Life

David Linde began his career as Vice President at Fox / Lober, where he was responsible for buying and selling more than 300 independent films as Vice President . He was also responsible for rights management for theatrical productions for Paramount Pictures .

In 1991 he moved to Miramax , where he initially worked as Vice President of Acquisitions until he was appointed Executive Vice President and Head of Sales at the newly founded Miramax Films International. As a result, he was involved in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction , Woody Allen's lover Aphrodite and Anthony Minghella's The English Patient .

In January 1997 he founded the independent film production company Good Machine with James Schamus and Ted Hope . His best-known productions from this period include Ang Lee's Tiger and Dragon and Alfonso Cuarón Y Tu Mamá También - Lust for Life , where he was executive producer. In 2002 they sold the company to Universal Pictures and founded Focus Features . There he was co-president and president of the Rogue Pictures division . This took care of, among others, Roman Polański's The Pianist , Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation , Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain , Todd Solondz ' Happiness and Fernando Meirelle's The Eternal Gardener . In 2008 he oversaw the sale of the production company to Relativity Media .

He then moved to Universal Pictures with Marc Shmuger , where he became chairman. Shmuger and Linde were fired from Universal Pictures in October 2009. In 2011 he also founded Lava Bear Films , of which he was CEO until October 2015. He then moved to Participant Media as CEO . His most recent productions include Biutiful (2010) by Alejandro González Iñárritu , 360 (2011) by Fernando Meirelles, The Flowers of War by Zhang Yimou and Arrival (2016). For the latter, he received a nomination in the category Best Film for the 2017 Academy Awards .
