David Melech Friedman (born August 8, 1958 in Long Island , New York) is an American lawyer and diplomat. He has been the US ambassador to Israel since March 2017 .

Life

Friedman is married to Tammy Deborah Sand. He was born the son of Rabbi Morris S. Friedman and attended Columbia University and New York University School of Law. Friedman is a bankruptcy lawyer who works for The Trump Organization . He is a founding partner of the law firm Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman . He is committed to United Hatzalah and the Aleh Negev rehab facility at Ofakim . He writes for Arutz Scheva and for the Jerusalem Post . Friedman is president of the American Friends of Bet El Yeshiva , which raised about $ 2 million for radical settlers in Beit El through 2016 .

On December 15, 2016, he was nominated by Donald Trump as US ambassador to Israel. On Thursday, March 23, 2017, the Washington Senate approved the nomination of the Jewish lawyer. 52 senators voted for David M. Friedman, 46 voted against Friedman.

For Benjamin Netanyahu , Friedman is a "close friend of Israel". Friedman approves the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and the expansion and construction of new Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
