David Miranda

David Miranda (born May 10, 1985 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian politician of the Partido Socialismo e Liberdade .

Life

Miranda grew up in the poor Jacarezinho neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. His mother died when he was five years old, and Miranda never met his father. From January 1, 2017 to January 31, 2019, Miranda was a PSOL member of the Rio de Janeiro City Council. In the 2018 elections , he initially missed entry into the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies , but took the place of his party colleague Jean Wyllys on February 1, 2019 after he had to leave the country due to death threats.

Since 2005 Miranda has been married to the US journalist Glenn Greenwald . The couple has adopted two children and lives in Rio de Janeiro . In 2013 he was briefly arrested by the British Secret Service during his layover in London.
