David Owusu-Ansah

David Owusu-Ansah (born August 1, 1952 , Kumasi , Ghana ) is a Ghanaian historian and Africanist. He is a professor at James Madison University , USA.

education

Owusu-Ansah completed his teacher training from 1967 to 1971 at Aduman Teachers 'College, Aduman, Ghana, which he completed in 1971 with the Teachers' Certificates "A". Immediately afterwards he taught at a primary school until 1974.

Between 1974 and 1977 he studied Comparative Religions and Education at the University of Cape Coast in Cape Coast , Ghana . He successfully completed this course in 1977 with a Bachelor (BA (Honors)). Again Owusu-Ansah taught in Ghana between 1977 and 1978. It was at this time as a teacher at a high school ( Secondary School worked) in Cape Coast, Ghana on Adisal College.

In the years 1978 to 1980 Owusu-Ansah in visited Montreal , Canada , the McGill University . Here he completed his studies at the Institute for Islamic Studies with a Master's (MA) in Islamic Studies in 1980. Owusu-Ansah was following this study does not return to his home country Ghana, but taught at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, USA Akan until 1984. During this time, graduated as a language teacher Owusu-Ansah a degree in African Studies ( African Studies ) , in Northwestern University's Africa Studies program.

Between November 1984 and April 1985 Owusu-Ansah stayed at the University of Jerusalem ( The Hebrew University of Jerusalem ) in Israel as an employee of Lester Martin of the Herry S. Truman Institute for International Studies. Back in the US, Owusu-Ansah was Associate Professor of African and Islamic History in Northfield, MN, at Carleton College and St. Olaf College between 1985 and 1986. As early as 1986 he moved to his current teaching institution, James Madison University (JMU), Harrisonburg, VA, USA. Between 1986 and 1992 he was junior professor for African history at JMU. Also from 1986, he received his PhD in history from Northwestern University.

Between 1992 and 1999 he was an adjunct professor ( associate professor ) at the JMU. Owusu-Ansah has held the Chair of African and Islamic History at JMU since 1999.
