David R. Knechtges
David R. Knechtges (born October 23, 1942 in the USA ) is a professor of East Asian languages and literature at the University of Washington and a renowned Chinese expert with a focus on ancient Chinese literature .
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Chinese with Magna Cum Laude in 1964 and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Association at the University of Washington. A year later he did his Master of Arts in East Asian Languages and Literature at Harvard University , followed in 1968 with a Ph. D. in Chinese Language and Literature.
Knechtges is known for his translation of Wenxuan , an anthology of early Chinese works. The complete translation took 25 years from 1977 to 2003.
In October 2006 he became a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
