David Reed (artist)
David Reed (* 1946 in San Diego , California ) is an American painter and multimedia artist. He lives in New York .
Life
David Reed grew up in California and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine in 1966 and the New York Studio School in New York in 1967. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Reed College in Portland, Oregon in 1968. He then moved to New York City. In 1969 his son, the writer John Reed was born. The gallery owner Rolf Ricke played a key role in Reed's artistic success outside the USA. Reed is represented by Rickes' gallery successor Anke Schmidt in Cologne, the Häusler Contemporary gallery in Munich, the Bob van Orsouw gallery in Zurich, the Thomas Schulte gallery in Berlin and the Renos Xippas gallery in Paris. His works on paper are represented by the Peter Blum Gallery in New York.
Awards
David Reed received several awards and honors, including one
- Roswell Museum and Art Center Scholarship
- the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation membership,
- membership of the National Endowment for the Arts and
- the Ursula Blickle Foundation Art Prize.
In 2009 David Reed was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design in New York .
