David days, Mona nights

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Days, Mona Nights is a letter novel by Andreas Steinhöfel and Anja Tuckermann from 1999. The authors write a story about the first real love, problems, the coming together and the bond between two young people.

action

Mona and David have a brief encounter, immediately feel connected, but all that remains of one another is each other's address. Because Mona thinks they should write to each other instead of meeting again, even though both live in Berlin. At first this is a big challenge for the cool, taciturn David who is not used to expressing himself, especially not in letters. But for Mona he accepts this, and quickly the two seem to be on the same wavelength. The letters get longer and longer, the two seem more and more familiar and the affection they feel for one another becomes more and more evident.

As they learn more about each other, a supposed problem suddenly stands in the way, which leads to major misunderstandings, and the contact between the two threatens to break up. Mona makes fun of David's age and they get into a conflict, which is why they almost break off contact.

Their story - the getting to know each other through to the relationship between the two - is only told to the reader through letters that they write to each other on a regular basis.

Reviews

David Days, Mona Nights received mostly positive reviews. The writing style was criticized in some places in the book because it did not suit 15 or 17 year old youngsters. It was positively received that the book can be read quickly and that interested "infrequent readers" are not overwhelmed.

"Something different, current topics that young people should be interested in."

"The main actors are presented in a very multi-faceted manner and staged with a great sense of a youthful style of speech."
