Wade Brookbank (born September 29, 1977 in Lanigan , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The defender played 127 games for the Nashville Predators , Vancouver Canucks , Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League , but spent most of his career in minor leagues .

Career

The 1.93 m tall winger began his career with the Melville Millionaires in the Canadian Junior League Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and then played in various North American minor leagues . After his engagement with the Anchorage Aces from the West Coast Hockey League and the Oklahoma City Blazers from the Central Hockey League , the left-shooter was finally hired as a free agent by the Ottawa Senators . However, Brookbank never played an NHL game for the Senators and was eventually selected by the Nashville Predators in the 2003 NHL Waiver Draft .

For the Predators, the striker, who can also be used as a defender , completed his first appearances in the National Hockey League in the 2003/04 season , but was then transferred to the Vancouver Canucks in the current season . For the 2006/07 season Brookbank was hired again as a free agent, this time by the Boston Bruins , who soon gave him up to the Pittsburgh Penguins . However, they only used the attacker on their farm team, the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the American Hockey League , so that he was obliged by the Carolina Hurricanes after the season .

Although Brookbank was there regularly in the NHL squad, the Carolina Hurricanes transferred him in the course of the 2008/09 season together with Josef Melichar to the Tampa Bay Lightning to secure the services of the Finnish attacker Jussi Jokinen . With the Bolts , however, the Canadian remained without NHL use and acted exclusively in the farm team with the Norfolk Admirals . As a free agent, Brookbank hired in late July 2009 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he was also active on the AHL farm team.

After his contractual relationship had expired in the summer of 2010, he agreed on a contract for one season with the Rockford IceHogs for the 2010/11 season . The following game year Brookbank was mostly without a contract, before the defender was hired by the Rockford IceHogs in February 2012 for a so-called professional try-out (PTO). Subsequently, the defender was active for the team until the end of the 2013-14 season before ending his playing career. He then stayed in the organization of the Chicago Blackhawks , the NHL cooperation partner of the IceHogs, and has worked for the team as a scout ever since .
