David Anthony Thompson (born September 12, 1977 in Birkenhead ) is an English football player .

Career

Thompson's first professional club was Liverpool , where he signed as a youth and also played in the youth team. On August 19, 1996, the midfielder made his debut for the Reds in the Premier League against Arsenal . In 1997 the Englishman was awarded to Swindon Town . There he played ten competitive games. It continued in the summer of 2000 after 48 games and five goals for Liverpool FC to Coventry City . After the great success with Coventry - the rise - it went on towards Blackburn to the Blackburn Rovers , which he was loyal to for four years. The highlights of the time with the Rovers were two nominations for international matches for the English national football team . Thompson was not used in the games against Slovakia and Macedonia . He previously played seven times (one goal) for England's U-21s. In 2006, the 170 cm tall midfielder moved to Wigan Athletic after they made it to the Premier League. After ten games with the Latics, he played in 2006 and 2007 at Portsmouth FC . Since January 31, 2007 Thompson was with the Bolton Wanderers under contract in the spring he ended his active career.
