David Veit

David Veit (born November 8, 1771 in Breslau ; † April 15, 1814 ) was a German medic.

Life

His father Joseph Veit was a banker; his brother Simon Veit was the husband of Moses Mendelssohn's daughter Dorothea Schlegel . A remarkable correspondence with Rahel Varnhagen von Ense dates from Veit's student days , in which Veit also describes his encounters with Goethe . After completing his studies, he traveled to Paris with Abraham Mendelssohn . In 1799 he moved to Hamburg, where he worked as a doctor and natural scientist. He frequented here u. a. with Johann Albert Heinrich Reimarus , Friedrich Christoph Perthes , Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi and Johann Gottlieb Fichte .
