life and work

Wallace-Wells is Associate Editor-in-Chief of New York Magazine . He also writes for the British daily The Guardian . Since 2017 he has been working on man-made climate change and its consequences for the habitat . That year he published a lengthy article entitled The Unhabitable Earth , the dire consequences of which struck the community of climate and environmental researchers like lightning. From this article he developed the book of the same title, which quickly caused a sensation. His book The Uninhabitable Earth creates scenarios for life after global warming. The article and book describe the worst possible consequences of global warming. Nevertheless, the author is optimistic that humanity will be able to cope with the crisis. In an open letter, three well-known academics praised him for the drastically described scenarios, but contradicted the optimism and belief in the possible salvation of the planet.

The book landed on the New York Times bestseller lists and the Spiegel bestseller lists . It was awarded both as Books of The Times and as Book of the Week by the German weekly newspaper Der Freitag . The British journalist and author Jonathan Watts commented in the Guardian : "You have written a hell of a book."

His first child was born when he wrote the book.
