Career and impact

In 1131 David entered the Cistercian order in Clairvaux and was sent in 1134 to the Himmerod Abbey (in the Eifel ) founded by Bernhard von Clairvaux . He was said to have performed miracles and a mystical talent, so that soon after his death there was widespread veneration.

David von Himmerod was first buried in the altar of the Himmeroder monastery church. As a result of the secularization of the monastery in 1802, his remains came to Belgium via Trier. Since 1930 they have been resting again in the newly founded Abbey of Himmerod in 1922.

The cult of David von Himmerod was confirmed early on by the general chapter . In 1699 he was beatified . His feast day is December 11th.

Even today, his grave in the abbey church is a pilgrimage destination for women suffering from sterility ; his belt can be placed on them with prayer.
