Dawn song

Dawn Xiadong Song (* 1975 ) is a Chinese-born American computer scientist and specialist in computer security. She is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley .

Song graduated from Tsinghua University (bachelor's degree in 1996), from Carnegie Mellon University (master's degree in 1999), and received his doctorate from Berkeley University in 2002. From 2002 she was Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and from 2007 Associate Professor at Berkeley University.

Song pursues a cross-system approach to computer security (software, hardware, networks), for example with semantic analysis of the binary code (BitBlaze project). She also developed cryptographic algorithms to protect sensitive information in programs (Seaglass project).

In 2010 she won the MacArthur Foundation's “Genius Prize” . Further prizes were the IBM Faculty Award (2005), the George Tallman Ladd Research Award (2006), a fellowship from the Sloan Foundation and the Best Paper Award at the USENIX Security Symposium. In 2019, Song was elected as a Fellow in the Association for Computing Machinery .

Song has been CEO of the blockchain startup Oasis Labs since 2018 .
