Yu mausoleum
The Yu Mausoleum ( Chinese 禹陵 , Pinyin Yǔlíng , English Yu Mausoleum ) or Dayu Mausoleum ( Chinese 大 禹陵 , Pinyin Dàyǔ líng , English Dayu Mausoleum ) - the mausoleum of Yu the Great - is located in the southeast of Shaoxing at the foot of the Kuaiji Shan会 稽山 in the Chinese province of Zhejiang . The Yu Mausoleum (Yuling 禹陵), Yu Ancestral Hall (Yuci 禹 祠) and Yu Temple (Yumiao 禹 庙) form an ensemble.
According to legend, Yu, who is said to have lived 4000 years ago, died on the Kuaiji Shan after a hunting trip. A mausoleum was later built in his honor, which many Chinese rulers - including Qin Shi Huang - visited. Yu is said to have saved the people from a major flood. He was the founder of the (mythical) Xia dynasty .
In the village of Yulingcun 禹陵 村 there are still people with his family name Si 姒 who are considered to be his descendants.
The Dayu Mausoleum has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-77) since 1996 .
