Shaoxing ( Chinese 紹興 市 / 绍兴 市 , Pinyin Shàoxīng Shì , W.-G. Shao-hsing ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Zhejiang in the Ningshao plain , 65 kilometers away from the provincial capital Hangzhou .
The administrative area of Shaoxing has an area of 8,256 km² and approx. 4.99 million inhabitants (end of 2016). 1,725,726 people live in the actual urban settlement area of Shaoxing (2010 census). The average temperature is 16 ° C. In the Yuecheng district there is an old town with canals and bridges and winding streets.
Administrative structure
At the county level, Shaoxing is made up of three boroughs , one county and two independent cities. These are:
- Yuecheng district (越 城区), 338 km², 640,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- District Keqiao (柯桥区, formerly Shaoxing County), 1177 square kilometers, 720,000 inhabitants, capital: Street district Keqiao (柯桥街道);
- Shangyu district (上虞 区, formerly Shangyu city), 1,427 km², 774,000 inhabitants, main town: Baiguan street district (百官 街道);
- District Xinchang (新昌县) 1,213 km², 430,000 inhabitants;
- Zhuji City (诸暨 市), 2,311 km², 1.06 million inhabitants;
- Shengzhou City (嵊 州市), 1,771 km², 730,000 inhabitants.
