history

Lambier de Geer de Chênée (died 1399) is regarded as the lord of the family. In the 16th century, family members emigrated to Dordrecht and Amsterdam . One of Lambier's descendants, Louis de Geer (1587–1652), was born in the Belgian city of Liège and later established himself as an arms dealer in Sweden. In 1641 he was accepted into the Swedish nobility. Further increases in status took place in 1766, 1773 and 1797, when family members were transferred to the Swedish baron class . In the 19th century, he was raised to the rank of count . A family member returned to the Netherlands during the 18th century. The resulting Dutch branches de Geer van Jutphaas and de Geer van Oudegein were accepted into the new Dutch nobility in 1815; in the years 1822 and 1867 the elevation to baron for the first-born took place.

In Sweden the name is consistently written De Geer (with the capital letter D), in the Netherlands de Geer .
