The rear of the De Tomaso Deauville

In March 2011 , De Tomaso Automobili presented the prototype of a five-door off - road vehicle under the name De Tomaso Deauville . With it, the brand name De Tomaso should be used again after an interruption of about ten years. The vehicle was completely redesigned; there is no technical similarity to the sports sedan of the same name , which was produced in small numbers in the 1970s and 1980s. Series production was not started until the bankruptcy in 2012.

The construction

The Deauville is an all-terrain crossover vehicle that incorporates conceptual and stylistic features of the BMW X6 , the BMW 5 Series GT and the Lexus RX . Like these, the Deauville has a very high structure and a gently sloping hatchback with a large tailgate that limits the usability of the trunk. The body was designed by Pininfarina . The front section has a striking radiator grille and flat headlights that suggest sportiness. The side windows have strongly rounded lines.

Initially, the car was to be sold with a 2.8 liter gasoline engine with six cylinders and turbocharging, which comes from the Opel Insignia . According to the factory, it has an output of 221 kW (300 hp). The automatic six-speed gearbox also comes from Opel. Later, a 368 kW (500 PS) eight-cylinder engine and a 184 kW (250 PS) diesel engine were to be offered as an alternative, which was to be developed at VM . The permanent four-wheel drive was not developed by De Tomaso Automobili itself, but should be obtained from European suppliers. The chassis has MacPherson struts , wishbones and hydraulically assisted rack and pinion steering at the front and a multi-link axle at the rear.

Performance

Factory data on the performance are so far only available for the version of the Deauville equipped with the Opel engine. After that, the top speed is 250 km / h (regulated) and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 6.7 seconds. No information is yet available on consumption and exhaust emissions.

production

The De Tomaso Deauville was presented to the public in March 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show. The vehicles were to be partly handcrafted in the former Pininfarina factory in Grugliasco, which De Tomaso took over at the end of 2009. Series production did not come about until 2012 due to financial difficulties of the company. According to press reports, De Tomaso has meanwhile sold the production rights to the off-road vehicle to a Chinese company.
