De delictis gravioribus
De delictis gravioribus ( Latin about more serious crimes ) is the name of a letter in the first words of the heading that was written on May 18, 2001 by the then Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger , and all incumbent bishops, ordinaries, hierarchs and superiors of the throughout the Catholic Church, both in the Latin and in the Oriental rite churches. The letter was published in 2001 in the official gazette of the Holy See , the Acta Apostolicae Sedis .
With De delicitis gravioribus , those addressed were informed about new norms for more serious crimes against the faith, the holiness of the sacraments and morals, which concerns the sole judicial jurisdiction of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith as an Apostolic Court. In the text itself, the first Latin words are: Ad exsequendam (for implementation or implementation).
The then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, on behalf of Pope John Paul II, recalls the serious crimes reserved for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith based on the Apostolic Letter Sacramentorum sanctitatis tutela (issued as Motu Proprio on April 30, 2001), including “the crime committed by a cleric against the sixth commandment of the Decalogue with a minor not yet 18 ”.
It was therefore the official information about the final replacement and update of the Crimen Sollicitationis regulation from 1962, in which the highest secrecy with regard to absolute compliance with regard to sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church , especially before, during or after confession the confession of confession was requested by members of the ecclesiastical tribunal, but not by the victims and the witnesses.
Since 2001, the limitation period for sexual offenses with minors has therefore been increased to 10 years from the age of majority and since 2010 to 20 years, whereby in serious cases in the interests of the victims, the limitation period can be dispensed with within the Church. The central reporting requirement for these crimes was created by Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Ratzinger.
