The glacier was surveyed as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) between 1948 and 1963. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named it after the ANARE participant Warwick Deacock (* 1926), who visited Heard Island in 1963 .
