Dead Island: Riptide is an action adventure horror first person shooter released in April 2013 , which was developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver . The game is the sequel to Dead Island , which was released in September 2011 .

After Dead Island was already indexed in Germany , the publisher expected the successor to be indexed and initially decided not to publish it there. The international Complete Edition was also indexed. In January 2019, both the predecessor and Dead Island: Riptide were released for publication in Germany.

action

After the survivors leave Banoi Island, they land on a military ship by helicopter. There they are captured by the military. Shortly afterwards, the ship is hit by a storm. Suddenly the deadly virus breaks out on the ship - the apocalypse starts again. The ship later runs aground on the island of Palanai.

content

According to the manufacturer, the game should not be a remake , but a completely new game. In addition to the already four playable well-known characters, another was added. The arsenal of weapons has also been expanded (e.g. landmine ) and it is now possible to move around with a boat as well as with a car.

development

At first, the developers said that a successor with the name Dead World was planned, so Techland secured the rights to this name. But finally it was confirmed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2012 that the successor would be called Dead Island: Riptide (English for "surf return current" or "torrential tide").

On September 18, 2012, Deep Silver and Techland published the first official trailer for Dead Island: Riptide on their websites , after a teaser and some in-game screenshots had already been published there in August 2012.

The game was released on April 26, 2013 in the EU.

marketing

In January 2013, the distributor Deep Silver advertised the "Zombie Bait Edition" of the game by stating that it should contain a fiberglass statuette of the decapitated torso of a woman wearing only a bikini. This aroused vehement criticism from the trade press and from people in the game industry, including Rhianna Pratchett . Critics described the statuette as "hideous," not even appealing to sociopaths , and as a school example of an extremely misogynistic fantasy. Despite an immediately published apology from Deep Silver, the game and statuette went on sale in April 2013.

continuation

Deep Silver already indicated a possible successor. More information should have been announced in 2013. In April 2014, the "closed beta" version of the game "Dead Island: Epidemic" started. The title should be a " free-to-play game". At E3 2014, Dead Island 2 was announced, which was originally developed by Yager . When Dead Island 2 will appear is not yet known.
