biography

Rhianna Pratchett was born on December 30, 1976 in the small village of Rowberrow, Somerset, England. She is the daughter of British fantasy author Terry Pratchett and his wife Lyn. As a six-year-old she got into computer games through her father, starting with the title Mazogs for the Sinclair ZX81 . After completing a university degree in journalism, she first worked as a game tester for several issues of the British women's magazine Minx from 1998, and later as an editor for the British game magazine PC Zone . She left the editorial team after a few years, but continued to work as a freelance journalist in addition to PC Zone for the newspapers The Guardian and The Sunday Times .

In 2002, parallel to her freelance journalistic work as a writer, she actively entered the games industry. Since then, her focus has been the creation of dialogues and complete action plans. Her first major commissions included working on the action role-playing game Beyond Divinity by the Belgian developer Larian Studios . As a story designer, she helped design the plot and dialogues, and wrote a companion novel called Child of The Chaos that came with the game. In 2007, together with Tameem Antoniadis and Andy Serkis , she created the plot concept for Sony's action-adventure Heavenly Sword , for which she was nominated at the BAFTA Video Games Awards 2007 in the category "Plot and Characters" and the British Writers' Guild Awards 2008 in in the “Best Computer Game Script” category. For the Dutch developer Triumph Studios she conceived the plot concept of the humorous action adventure Overlord , for which she received the British Writers' Guild Award in the category "Best Computer Game Screenplay" in 2008 (in direct competition with her work on Heavenly Sword ) .

Also in 2008 was the critically acclaimed action adventure Mirror's Edge , for which she worked on the plot for the Swedish studio DICE . To accompany this, she also wrote the plot of a six-part comic miniseries published by DC Comics from late 2008 to early 2009. This was followed by work on three more Overlord titles in 2009 , as well as translation work with James Leach and Andrew S. Walsh for the German-language role-playing game Risen , for which she was nominated again for the Writer's Guild Award in 2010. On July 12, 2012 it was announced that Rhianna Pratchett was commissioned by developer Crystal Dynamics as the lead author for the plot of the series restart Tomb Raider . On November 1, 2013, she announced on Twitter that she was working on a film adaptation of the Discworld novel Little Free Men from her father.
