Dead Meadow is an American stoner / psychedelic rock band from Washington, DC
history
The band was formed in 1998 from the previous bands The Impossible Five and Color . Founding members were Jason Simon, Steve Kille and Mark Laughlin. Her first self-titled album was released in 2000 by Tolotta Records , directed by Fugazi bassist Joe Lally. The vinyl version was distributed by Planaria Records . The album Howls from the Hills followed in 2001 . In the spring of 2002 Laughlin left the band to pursue his profession as a lawyer. He has been replaced by Stephen McCarty. The live album Got Live If You Want It was released in mid-2002 by the labels Bomp! and Committee to Keep Music Evil . This was followed by a peel session in Fugazi's studio, the first of its kind to be held outside the BBC studios. In 2003 the band moved to Matador Records and released Shivering King & Others . For the follow-up album Feathers , Cory Shane was added to the band as the second guitarist, which made the sound more catchy, as the song At Her Open Door shows. In 2007 the group separated from Shane and moved from Washington DC to Los Angeles. In 2008, the band's fifth studio album, Old Growth , was released and received only mediocre reviews. In 2010 the band released a concert film on DVD in which film sequences on the subject of corruption, destruction and rebirth were combined with excerpts from the last show of their tour in 2009. The accompanying soundtrack Three Kings includes live material and five new songs. In autumn 2013 the band released their sixth studio album, Warble Womb, and went on a major European tour.
style
Dead Meadow tries to combine 70s hard rock and 60s psychedelic rock. In terms of content, themes and scenes are taken up by writers such as JRR Tolkien and HP Lovecraft .
Equipment
Guitarist Jason Simon uses Orange and Fender brand amps . Simons used to use an original Roland Tape Delay , which he has now replaced with the Echo Park. Together with the Fender Telecaster Plus, Dead Meadow achieves a very penetrating guitar sound. On previous recordings and during US touring gigs, Jason Simon occasionally uses a Fender 6x10 box and a Silverface Super Reverb from Fender. While recording Feathers , second guitarist Corey Shane played a Gibson S-1, 2 Fender Twin Reverbs (1 Silverface and 1 Reissue) with effects like MXR Analog Delay and Vox Wah.
