Deadline is a London street punk band that has existed since 2000.
history
Deadline was founded in London in 2000 after the later Deadline singer Liz spontaneously entered the stage at a concert by the band Gundog and did the singing. With that, Liz, who already had a concept for her band in mind, had found her companions. Shortly thereafter, Gundog split, with the members partly being absorbed into deadline. Liz is considered to be a successful singer in the band because of her outstanding qualities as a singer, not only for punk.
Deadline soon released her first single "TV Dreams" (2001), followed by her first album "More to it" in the same year. The band was also very active live, also outside the UK: In 2002 Deadline played the first tour in Germany. There was also deadline support for well-known bands, e.g. B. The Distillers and Rancid .
To accompany other concerts, Liz and Hervé wrote songs for the second album "Back for More", which was released in 2003. On the occasion of the publication there was a tour in various European countries. With the band's growing success, drummer Nic and guitarist Ray left Deadline to focus on their other band, Knuckledust. They were promptly replaced by Dave and Lee. After a split EP with the US band Brassknuckle Boys (2004), the drummer was changed again: Nico accompanied the band on another European tour, after which work on another album began. "Getting Serious" was released in 2005.
After further appearances and another change of drummer (Pascal) the band's newest album, "Take a good Look" (2006), came out. In 2007 guitarist Lee Jones was replaced by Benoît "Doudou" Eydoux.
Texts
Lyrically, Deadline is often in the thematic area of celebration (e.g. in "Too Many Pints"), life as a musician (e.g. "On the Road") and love & relationships (e.g. "Love Song") ), which serves clichéd topics of street punk. The demarcation from typical images of the enemy comes into play (eg: "It Girl"). In addition, some songs also deal with topics that are in the Oi! Scene that form standards, such as the demarcation of political extremes (eg: "By Numbers") or the working class (eg: "No Way Out"). In addition, there are occasional reflective (eg: "Going Nowhere") and critical pieces (eg: "Violent World") on the albums.
