Dean Falk (2011)

Dean Falk (born June 25, 1944 ) is an American anthropologist specializing in the development of the brain and perception in primates . Falk teaches anthropology at Florida State University .

After the discovery of skeletal parts of an approx. 17,000 year old human on the Indonesian island of Flores in 2003, these finds were referred to as a new species of hominini , Homo floresiensis . Falk supported this determination in 2005. In 2007 she demonstrated by casts of the inside of the skull of the fossil LB1 that Homo floresiensis is probably a close relative of Homo erectus and not an example of microcephaly in modern humans ( Homo sapiens ).

In 2000 she was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science .
