Hans Carl Knudtzon

Hans Carl Knudtzon (born January 29, 1751 in Bredstedt , North Friesland , † December 16, 1823 in Trondheim , Norway ) was a businessman and politician and a member of the Norwegian Parliament ( Storting ).

Life

At the age of 16 he came to Trondheim in Norway and did an apprenticeship with the court agent Broder Lysholm, who was not only a shipowner, but also traded in grain, wood, ore and fish. After Lysholm's death in 1772 he continued the business and took it over in 1797. Knudtzon did numerous voluntary activities and supported many local initiatives. In the years 1802-06 he was honorary mayor of Trondheim. In 1814 Knudtzon was 1st representative from Trondheim to the Norwegian Parliament (Storting). He was a member of the delegation that traveled to Stockholm in 1814 when the union with Denmark was ended and the union with Sweden advised.

Knudtzon married Karen Müller. The couple had 5 sons and 3 daughters.
