Dean Franke

Dean Franke (* in Ottawa ) is a Canadian violinist.

Franke was a student of Albert Pratz and John Moskalyk, Toronto , among others . He won the CBC Network Talent Search at the age of 15 and was awarded second prize at the CBC Talent Festival . He then performed as a soloist in Canada. He studied at Indiana University and the Juilliard School, and as a fellow at Tanglewood, at Yale University and the Banff School of Fine Arts .

With his wife, violinist Susan Chan, he co-founded the Accord Chamber Music Society in San Francisco and the New Century Dezsö Mahalek String Quartet at the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center in Indianapolis (1999). He was the assistant concertmaster of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra and has performed as a guest with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra , the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra . As a soloist he has appeared with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under Raymond Leppard and the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra under Orcenith Smith (whose assistant concertmaster he has been since 1990). He also made guest appearances with the Ronen Chamber Ensemble , the Scott Chamber Players , at the Indiana University's Faculty Recital Series in Bloomington, at Composers Inc. in San Francisco and at the Princeton University New Music Series in New York.
