The Deane family from Galway is one of those 14 Cambro-Norman families first by Oliver Cromwell as the Tribes of Galway ( English Tribes of Galway were named) and for several centuries the city of Galway and the surrounding areas in the Irish County Galway dominated.

The first Deane to settle in Galway is said to have been William Allen or Den, who was born during the reign of Henry VI. came from Bristol . The earliest references to the family in Galway are from 1438 when Williame Deane was city provost. Edmond Deane was the town's 18th mayor from 1502 to 1504, while in 1562 a William Allen, aka Deane, served as the port's customs inspector.

A roundabout in Galway is named after the family.
