Debenhams is a British department store chain with over 150 branches in 26 countries on three continents.
history
It was founded in 1778 and today has 165 branches (as of April 2019 before bankruptcy) worldwide. Sales in 2011 were just over £ 2.5 billion and the company employs approximately 29,000 people. The company was originally founded as Flint & Clark , and since 1813 as Clark & Debenham . The headquarters are still in London . Michael Sharp has been CEO since September 2011, succeeding Rob Templeman. Online sales amounted to £ 92.3 million in the 2010/2011 financial year. Debenhams is represented in Germany with an online shop, but not with local branches.
In April 2019, the department store chain had to file for bankruptcy after persistent losses.
