Debra Johnson

Debra Johnson (* 1965 or 1966 ) is a lawyer and was mayor of South Brunswick in the state of New Jersey in 1997 and 1999 to 2002 .

Life

Johnson studied at the University of Pennsylvania ( Bachelor -degree in economics) and then obtained a degree in Law at the University of California, Los Angeles . The African American served on the South Brunswick Town Council from 1995 to 1998 and served as its mayor in 1997 as its chairman. After the parish changed its form of administration, Johnson was elected mayor of South Brunswick for four years by direct vote by the electorate. In 2002 she waived a possible re-election for family reasons, and her deputy, Frank Gambatese , became mayor .

In 2006 Debra Johnson was not nominated as a candidate for mayor in the Democratic primary , and in 2010 she was defeated by incumbent Gambatese as an independent.
