Dedolight

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dedolight is a focusable and dimmable lighting system for film, video and photo recordings that has existed since 1984 .

The first generation of lights is operated with a voltage of 12 volts, usually with 50 and 100 watt halogen lamps . The system is named after its developer, the German cameraman Dedo Weigert from Munich , who won a technical Oscar for it in 1991(Technical Achievement). The current version of these lights is mostly operated with a voltage of 24 volts and outputs of 100 or 150 watts. The advantage of the system is its compactness, which enables illumination for which conventional headlights are too large. Due to the small design, it is possible to attach a Dedolight almost anywhere, for example on suction feet, with small screw clamps or on flexible necks. In addition, the system can be mounted on the camera, which enables it to be used for documentaries or live broadcasts. The lights can also be equipped with filters, diffusers and projection attachments, among other things, in order to adapt them to the respective area of application. Due to the special construction of the reflector and the lenses, a Dedolight achieves a light output that is considerably higher than that of conventional headlights with higher power.

For some years now, lamp heads have also been available for use in conjunction with so-called soft boxes , with which a particularly soft light can be formed. Since the light source in this system is located directly in the focal point of the softbox, it has a considerably more even and brighter illumination than comparable softboxes that are mounted in front of conventional headlights.

At the beginning of the 2000s, another lighting system was introduced with the 400 series, which is much larger than the original system. In 2003 , Dedo Weigert received another technical Oscar (Scientific and Engineering Award) and an Emmy for this system . Daylight spotlights with HMI lamps are now also available in the Dedolight system .

Dedolights are used in all areas of film, television and video production, increasingly also by photographers.
