Dee Nasty

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dee Nasty (* 1960 ), whose real name is Daniel Bigeault , is a French disc jockey and rapper . He comes from the Pierre-Plate district in Bagneux , a suburb in the south of Paris , from where he went to the USA at the age of 17 until the late 1970s.

Artistic career

In 1979, during a stay in the USA, Dee Nasty encountered the beginnings of hip-hop , graffiti , breakdance and chanted funk , such as that presented by the Sugarhill Gang .

In 1982 he became known through his work with the rapper Lionel D on a pirate station . At the end of 1984 his first long-playing record , Paname city rappin , was released in-house. It is the first French rap album and a unique testimony to the original rap in France, including the title Metro scratchin , which is characteristic of the beginnings of French hip-hop culture. The record is hardly available these days.

In 1985 he became known to an even wider audience by organizing hip-hop meetings in the Quartier de la Chapelle in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, which he promoted with leaflets that he put in the envelopes of American funk and hip-hop records stuck. At those street performances where the five art forms of hip-hop, namely graffiti, breakdance, MCing , DJing and beatboxing were presented, the first appearances of Suprême NTM and Assassin also took place. He himself gave up MCing in 1984 and preferred to turn to DJing.

He became a member of the Zulu Nation and organized the first part of the France tour of Afrika Bambaataa with Grandmaster Flash and Kool Herc .

He released maxi singles more often, for example Deenastyle n ° 1 in 1987 and So Funky / Bouge in 1989 , but only a few albums. In addition to the groups already mentioned, through his performances at Radio Nova, he also made the groups Timide et sans complexe and IAM known to the public in France.

In 1999 he participated in the production of the album Double H DJ Crew by the DJ Cut Killer .

Currently (2010) Dee Nasty works with the group URBAN SWING SOUND SYSTEM. There he accompanies the voices of three singers and an ensemble of different instruments such as bass, electric guitar and synthesizer with his scratches, mixing stylistic elements of different musical styles such as hip-hop and jazz.
