Delap ( Marshallese Teḷap ) is a motu in the southeast of the Majuro Atoll of the Pacific republic of the Marshall Islands .

geography

To the north of Delap is the island of Uliga , and to the west is Rairok (Rairik). Together with Uliga and the island Darrit (Rita) further north, Delap forms the " Delap-Uliga-Darrit " region. The smaller islands Biggariat and Eniligere (between Delap and Uliga in the north) and Utwe and Enirak (between Delap and Rairok in the west) also belong to the place or district of Delap.

Delap-Uliga-Darrit ( DUD ) forms a conurbation within the capital of the Marshall Islands Majuro , which includes the entire atoll . Delap is home to the Marshall Islands' capitol (seat of parliament), while the government authorities are in Darrit.

On June 1, 1998, the place or district Delap had 6339 inhabitants, after 5692 inhabitants in 1988. This includes the islands of Biggariat and Eniligere in the north and Utwe and Enirak in the west. The area indicated of 0.648 km² should relate to the same area. The islands from Darrit in the north to Enirak in the west are connected by a continuous road embankment. The island of Rairok to the west is separated from Enirak by a narrow boat passage over which a road bridge leads. The road dam was built from coral fragments during World War II ; the road was later paved.
