Hassi El Ferid delegation

The Hassi El Ferid delegation (الفريد حاسي معتمدية) is one of the 13 Tunisian delegations in the Kasserine Governorate , south of Kasserine . In the 2014 census, 19,400 inhabitants were counted. The main town is Hassi El Ferid, which became a municipality in 2015.

Sectors (Imada)

The delegation is divided into 5 sectors ( Imada ):

  • Hassi El Ferid (حاسي الفريد) with 5,328 inhabitants (2014 census)
  • El Hechim (الهشيم) with 1,637 inhabitants
  • Khanguet Jezia (خنقة الجازية) with 2,414 inhabitants
  • Essalloum (السلوم) with 2,484 inhabitants
  • El Kamour (الكامور) with 7,537 inhabitants

The delegation borders in the south-west with the delegation Majel Bel Abbes , in the north-west with the delegation Kasserine South , in the north with the delegation Sbeitla , in the east with the delegations Bir El Hafey and Sidi Ali Ben Aoûn , in the south with the Sidi Aïch .

The climate is arid .

The main town is on a high plateau at around 600–700 meters. The most important elevations are Djebel Ettouila to the west, Djebel Selloum (1,314 m) to the north-west, Djebel el Koumine to the northeast, Djebel el Kharroub to the east, Djebel Sidi Ali Ben Aoun (816 m) to the southeast and Djebel Sidi Aïch (1,029 m) to the south.

The next most important localities are: to the west of Fériana (تالة) and Thelepte (ثليفت), both about 40 kilometers away by road; to the north are Kasserine and Sbeitla , both also around 40 km from the main town of Hassi El Ferid; to the east are Bir El Hafey (بئر الحفي), Sidi Ali Ben Aoun (سيدي علي بن عون) and Sidi Bouzid (سيدي بوزيد), the first about 30 km, Sidi Bouzid, however, 60 km away; Gafsa (قفصة), the capital of the governorate of the same name, is 90 km south .

According to the 2014 census, the resident population consists of 19,400 inhabitants, of which 9,925 men and 9,475 women, who form 3,746 families and live in 4,288 apartments. 45% of the population are younger than 20 years and 7.3% are 60 years old or older.

It is one of the delegations with a very high prevalence of illiteracy (55% of the population aged ten or more were illiterate in 2014) and with very little availability of running water: only 33% of the homes had running water at the time of the 2014 census Water in the apartment.

The workforce is mainly employed in agriculture (63% in 2014).
