Sbeitla delegation

The Sbeitla delegation (سبيطلة) is one of the 13 Tunisian delegations in the Kasserine Governorate , east of Kasserine . The 2014 census counted 75,245 inhabitants. The main town is Sbeitla .

Sectors (Imada)

The delegation is divided into 14 sectors ( Imada ): The city of Sbeitla itself is divided into two sectors:

  • north of the railway line: Sbeitla (سبيطلة) with 15,523 inhabitants (2014 census),
  • south of the railway line: Cité Essourour (حي السرور) with 8,445 inhabitants

The following three sectors also belong to the municipality of Sbeitla, but they are predominantly rural in character

  • El Athar (الآثار) with 2,971 inhabitants (2014 census)
  • El Ksar (القصر) with 3,560 inhabitants
  • El Khadhra (الخضراء) with 5,889 inhabitants

The other sectors are also predominantly rural in character

  • Semama (سمامة) with 3,557 inhabitants (2014 census)
  • Errakhmet (الرخمات) with 3,297 inhabitants
  • El Gounna (القنة) with 3,928 inhabitants
  • Eddouleb (الدولاب) with 3,653 inhabitants
  • Ech-Charaya (الشرائع) with 3,444 inhabitants
  • Machrek Ech-Chams (مشرق الشمس) with 4,762 inhabitants
  • Ouassaia (الوساعية) with 4,555 inhabitants
  • El Mezara (المزراة) with 2,669 inhabitants
  • El Garâa El Hamra (القرعة الحمراء) with 8,992 inhabitants

The delegation borders in the north with the delegations of El Ayoun and Sbiba , in the west with the delegations Foussana and Kasserine South , in the south with the delegations Hassi El Ferid , Bir El Hafey and Sidi Bouzid Ouest , in the east with those of Cebalet Ouled Asker .

The delegation's territory extends from the plain southeast of Sbeitla, which is less than 400 meters above sea level, to the 1,300-meter-high mountains in the northwest: one of them is the Djebel Semmama ( 1,314 m), other mountains are the Djebel el Koumine ( 681 m) south of the city of Sbeitla and the mountain northeast of the city. The main town itself is about 550 meters above sea level.

The climate is arid , except in the mountains where it is classified as semi-arid .

The most important closest localities to the city of Sbeitla are (distances measured in road kilometers) west of Kasserine (30 km), 40 km north of Sbiba (سبيبة), to the east you reach Jelma (جلمة) after 30 km . Cebalet Ouled Asker (السبالة) is 15 km to the southeast and after another 25 km you will reach Sidi Bouzid (سيدي بوزيد). Bir El Hafey (بئر الحفي) is 40 km south and after another 10 km comes Sidi Ali Ben Aoun (سيدي علي بن عون).

According to the 2014 census, the resident population consists of 75,245 inhabitants, of which 37,289 men and 37,956 women, who formed 16,453 families and lived in 19,604 apartments. 38% of the population is less than 20 years old and 9.6% is 60 or older. 68% of the population live in rural areas and are severely disadvantaged compared to those who live in the city (sectors Cité Essourour and Sbeitla).

The illiteracy (2014 were 30% of the population with 10 years or more illiterate) is above the national average for both the rural sectors (36%) and for the urban population (18%), but in both groups is below the average of the government . While in the city 99% of the population has running water in their homes, this is only true for 31% of the homes in the rural areas.

Half (50%) of the workforce who live in the city work in education, health care and administration, while the inhabitants of the rural areas are mainly (42%) in construction and public works and in agriculture (22%) .
