El Ayoun delegation

The El Ayoun delegation (معتمدية العيون) is one of the 13 Tunisian delegations in the Kasserine Governorate . In the 2014 census, 19,211 inhabitants were counted. The main town is El Ayoun , which became a "Commune" in 2015, the territory of which corresponds to that of the delegation. The seat of the Commune is in the town of the same name.

It is classified as the delegation with the second worst regional development indicator nationwide.

Sectors (Imada)

The delegation is divided into 6 sectors ( Imada ):

  • El Ayoun (العيون) with 3,517 inhabitants (2014 census), with an area of ​​70.4 km²
  • El Baouajer (البواجر) with 1,973 inhabitants, 69.18 km²
  • Ain Esselsela (or Ain Es Silsla) (عين السلسلة) with 1,487 inhabitants, 58.28 km²
  • Tiwicha (or Tioucha) (توشة) with 4,147 inhabitants, 116.00 km²
  • El Brek (البرك) with 2,897 inhabitants, 41.28 km²
  • El Grine (القرين) with 5,190 inhabitants, 56.12 km².

geography

About half of the delegation's entire territory is used for agriculture ( barley , legumes , fodder, apple and almond trees) and less than half is covered by Aleppo pine forests. Apart from the main town itself and the very small town of Skhira in the Tiwicha sector, there are no towns with a village character. The majority can at best be viewed as a scattered settlement . The climate is semi-arid .

The delegation borders west to the delegation of Thala , north to the delegation Djedeliane , west to the delegation Sbiba and south to the delegation Sbeitla and for a very short section and to the delegation Foussana .

The main town is located on a high plateau at about 900-1000 meters above sea level and is surrounded to the north, east and south by mountains 1,100 to 1,200 meters high. The main places nearby are:

in the west Thala (تالة) about 25 km by road;
in the east Sbiba (سبيبة) and Djedeliane (جدليان) each about 30 e 35 km away;
in the south Sbeitla (سبيطلة) and Kasserine , the capital of the governorate of the same name, each about 45 km and 70 km by road.

According to the 2014 census, the resident population consists of 19,211 inhabitants, of which 9,553 men and 9,658 women, who formed 3,990 families and lived in 4,080 apartments. 38.6% of the population are less than 20 years old and 9.3% are 60 or older. It is the most illiterate delegation in the country (45% of residents aged 10 or more were illiterate in 2014) and 37% of those with the lowest proportion of families with water pipes in their homes.

The workforce is predominantly employed in agriculture and construction.
