Martin Üffing

Martin Üffing SVD (* 1962 in Rheine ) is a German religious priest and theologian .

Life

After graduating from the Arnold-Janssen-Gymnasium in Neuenkirchen in 1981, Martin Üffing entered the postulate of the Society of the Divine Word in Steyl . After the novitiate in Wittlich - Wengerohr , he studied theology at the PTH Sankt Augustin from 1982 to 1987 . After ordination in 1988 and the pastoral year, he obtained a licentiate in 1989 and a doctorate in 1992 at the Pontificia Universitas Gregoriana in Rome . He then worked as a lecturer and trainer in the Philippines (lecturer / professor of missiology and fundamental theology ) at the Divine Word School of Theology in Tagaytay (1994-2001) and professor of missiology at the Institute for Consecrated Life in Asia (ICLA) of the Pontifical and Royal University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Manila (1996-2001), before he took over the leadership of the training community in Sankt Augustin in 2001 and began teaching missiology at the university. In 2002 he was appointed professor . Since 2008 he has headed the Steyler Missionary Institute and was rector of the Missionary Seminary from 2013 until he was appointed Provincial of the Steyler Missionaries in Germany in May 2016. In 2018 he was confirmed as Provincial of the Steyler Missionaries in Germany and in Steyl for the term of office until 2023.

His research interests are theology of revelation, theology of religions, theology of mission, mission and religious life and mission in Europe.
