With Delicatessen [ ˌdɛlɪkətɛsn̩ ] just Deli , are in the Anglo-American Delicatessen designated mostly integrated snack.

The loan word comes from the German term delicacy . Originally taken from French (délicatesse) , it was exported to the United States by German emigrants in the second half of the 19th century in the connection delicatessen shop, where it was abbreviated to deli to denote delicatessen shops.

Ready-made meals are sold, for example. B. salads , finger food , trendy foods and other snacks that are either consumed on the spot or can be taken away.
