Dolphin group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The dolphin group (English Dolphin group , originally called Dolphin class by Emilie Haspels ) is a group of black-figure vases from the middle of the 6th century BC. It got its emergency name from the depiction of dolphins on the shoulders of the vessels. The group consists for the most part of shoulder lekyths , only a few other small vessels are assigned to it.

It is unclear whether the vases were made in Attica or Euboea . For a long time the group was thought to be Attic, and in the end research tends to locate them in Euboea.
