history

The Delahaye compagnie was founded in 1911 as a manufacturer of camera bags, typewriters and turntables. After the Seynhaeve brothers joined the company, the company was renamed Delsey in 1946 . The name was composed of the first letters of the surnames Delahaye and Seynhaeve .

The company has had a branch in Germany since 1970: DelSey Reiseartikel und Lederwaren GmbH, initially in Offenbach am Main , and since 2011 in Hamburg .

In 1972 Delsey brought a new, rollable hard case called Trolley onto the market. When pulling out the retractable long handle, two small wheels were folded out on the opposite side. In common parlance, trolley became a term for rollable suitcases from other manufacturers ( generic term ).

In 2007 the management took over the company from the previous owners through a management buyout with the help of the English Argan Capital Advisors LLP .
