In 1887 Tremblay was renamed Tremblay-lès-Gonesse . Since 1989 the municipality has been called Tremblay-en-France . This decision was made after a public survey. En-France does not mean 'in France', but refers to the area in which the city is located. This area in the north of the Île-de-France is called Pays de France or Plaine de France .
