history

Gournay-sur-Marne was first mentioned in 1105 in a document from Saint Martin de Champs under the name Gornaium . At that time, Guy le Rouge , Lord of Gourney, founded a priory , seat of the royal bailiwick , and quarters of Henry IV , who from here directed the siege of Paris during the French Wars of Religion.
