The Delta Island ( English Delta Island ) is an 800 m long island in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located in the group of Melchior Islands, southeast of the Lambda Island and east of the Alpha Island .

Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped them in 1927 and named them after the Greek letter Delta in connection with the naming of the other islands in the group . The Delta Island was measured as part of Argentine expeditions in 1942, 1943 and 1948. In Argentina it is known as Isla Hermelo , named after Ricardo J. Hermelo, the deputy commander of the corvette Uruguay who rescued the Nordenskjöld expedition in 1903.
