Democratic Labor Party (Barbados)

The Democratic Labor Party is the social democratic ruling party in Barbados .

It was founded in 1955 and ruled until 1961. After Barbados' independence , it was in government between 1966 and 1976 under Errol Barrow and between 1986 and 1994 under Lloyd Erskine Sandiford .

In 2005 David Thompson became party leader. The leadership of the faction, which was the only opposition in parliament at the time, Thompson also took over in 2006 after his predecessor Clyde Mascoll switched to the ruling Barbados Labor Party (BLP).

In January 2008 the Democratic Labor Party became a ruling party again and provided the Prime Minister of Barbados with David Thompson and, after his death on October 23, 2010, with his deputy friend Stuart . In 2018 the party lost to the Barbados Labor Party, and Mia Amor Mottley became the new Prime Minister .
