The Democratic Alternative ( Finnish : Demokraattinen Vaihtoehto (DeVa) ) was a Finnish communist party that existed from 1986 to 1990.

history

The Democratic Alternative was formed from the strict Marxist wing of the Communist Party of Finland or its parliamentary organization, the Democratic Union of the Finnish People , which had founded the Communist Party of Finland (Unity) in 1986 . In 1987 it took part in the parliamentary elections as the parliamentary organization of the Communist Party of Finland (Unity) and achieved a result of 4.2%. The DeVa then appointed four members of the Finnish parliament: Marjatta Stenius-Kaukonen , Ensio Laine , Marja-Liisa Löyttyjärvi and Esko-Juhani Tennilä . The party also put up its own candidate in the presidential election, Jouko Kajanoja , who received 1.44% of the vote. In the local elections in 1988 DeVa had the greatest successes in the municipalities of Karkkila (19.6%) and Nokia (15.5%). The Democratic Alternative worked with the Socialist Workers Party, a left-wing split from the Social Democratic Party that had candidates on the DeVa list in the parliamentary election.

In 1990 the DeVa went on in the newly founded Linksbund .
