Democratic Party of Nauru

The Democratic Party of Nauru ( engl. : Democratic Party of Nauru, DPN) is a political party in Nauru . It was founded in January 1987 by Kennan Adeang after losing the presidency to Hammer DeRoburt for the second time in two months . The DPN is the successor organization to the informal Nauru Party that has existed since the mid- 1970s . Its chairman, Bernard Dowiyogo , then supported the DPN in parliament.

The aim was to prevent the then President DeRoburt from expanding power and to strengthen the role of parliament . In 1989 , thanks to Adeang's strong support and a parliamentary vote of no confidence in DeRoburt, Kenos Aroi became president, but only for four months. Most recently, at the end of 1996 , Adeang, a DPN member, was President. The DPN then increasingly lost influence; at least since 2000 she has not had a seat in parliament. In 2003 , David Adeang , the son of Kennan Adeang, founded the Naoero Amo party.
