The People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan ( Tajik Ҳизби Халқии Демократии Тоҷикистон Hezbi Chalqii Demokratieii Todschikiston ) is a left-wing political party in Tajikistan . It is the ruling party in Tajikistan and is led by Emomalij Rahmon , the country's current president .

In the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan in 2005 , the party won an absolute majority in parliament with 52 out of 63 seats . Observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe criticized the election as neither free nor fair and criticized the discrimination against opposition parties. In the penultimate elections, which took place on February 28, 2010, the party received 71.69% and moved into parliament with 55 out of 63 seats. Foreign observers from the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have described the elections as fair and transparent or were satisfied with them. The OSCE, on the other hand, criticized it and described the ballot as undemocratic.

In the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan in 2015 , the party lost four seats, but remained the dominant party in the Tajik parliament with 51 seats.

The headquarters are in the Palace of Unity in Dushanbe , the country's capital.
